Borland have sold Codegear

May 2008 - a comment by Holger Klemt

"Codegear has been sold by Borland! My personal thoughts about this ...

After the Borland stock price had dived to less than 1 Euro, the new ownership for the Codegear products is in my point of view the first good news from Borland for a long time, and also the last news from Borland that I am interested in. My favorite Borland products (Delphi and InterBase®) are now owned by another established company that seems to have a powerful investor background. The whole ALM stuff was definitely not made for me and also not for my typical customer.

But we will have to wait and see where the whole thing is going to lead. The changes in the Borland stock price were hardly discernable, so most analysts consider this move to be the equivalent of the sale of the family silver with no future advantages for the Borland company. So do I.

Since the main focus of the new company is database technology (similar to the main focus of IBExpert KG), we are extremely happy with this step. And the Codegear employees sound like they are happy to leave the sinking ship in time.

Perhaps it is time for a "Delphi is back" celebration, even if the traditional name Borland might be lost. We will see ...!"
