This year the focus has been on following topics:

Performance

  • How to optimize the database server performance.
  • Which hardware, Windows® or Linux® versions are optimal?
  • What are the advantages of the Classic and Superserver versions of Firebird or Red Soft on dual- or quad-core CPUs?

Blocks

Firebird's block implementation enables complex SQL operations in many application areas. IBExpert's IBEBlocks offer additional enhancements for access to multiple databases, external ODBC databases such as MSSQL® and Oracle®.

Our 120 minute special session offers you a valuable introduction to working with Firebird blocks and IBEBlocks, absolutely free of charge!

Data security

Have you already successfully tested your backup and restore strategies for your server? Many of our clients have discovered that their data backups, when created using simple backup tools, are often useless when an emergency situation arises. The Firebird hot backup using gbak can be automated, and when a problem arises the DBA is immediately informed by e-mail.

Furthermore databases can be backed up during runtime using simple external USB exchangeable disks, if you know the right commands.

Maintenance

  • How to replicate the databases at a customer's and his external locations and field staff laptops without any user interaction.
  • How to ensure that your own Firebird server does not conflict with other software installations.
  • How to automate data exchange with other database systems via ODBC.
